If you are looking for ethical, sustainable, or low-sugar chocolate - for companies that care from seed to bean - bean to bar - for chocolatiers and chocolate-makers who are passionate about their produce, then Discover Cacao is working to bring this to you via a series of events across the South East.
Do you find dark chocolate bitter? Do you want vegan options? Are you looking to simply indulge your chocolate passion? Healthy options? Low sugar alternatives? Discover Cacao offers informal educational talks, promoting award-winning artisan chocolate brands, leaving you to make your own choices about the chocolate you buy.
Our aim is to bring quality chocolate to a wider audience by offering an affordable platform for chocolatiers and chocolate makers to showcase their products, and share their story so that you can indulge your passion for all things chocolate!
Discover Cacao continues to support and promote ethically sourced and sustainable chocolate options from passionate producers who connect and work with the cacao farmers they source from, to ensure the best quality of their chocolate is maintained. Our chocolate events include gluten- & dairy-free, vegan, vegetarian, and omni options. Our Story
In 2012 we were invited to attend Chocolate Unwrapped, set in the depths of the London Film Museum in Covent Garden, and on a wet October day our perception of chocolate was changed forever. With demonstrations and tastings, as well as an inspiring selection of the purest and finest chocolate available to buy, we spent a day in a chocolate heaven of non-stop indulgence. We learned that there is more to chocolate than just the taste.
Chocolate Week started back in 2004, and has been voted one of the nation’s favourite themed week. It comprises of all sorts of chocolatey happenings at restaurants, hotels, tearooms, chocolate shops, and more. Chocolate Week creator Kate Johns brought us the first ever London Chocolate Week, with just four chocolate shops taking part.
In 2014, two years after discovering Chocolate Unwrapped we created Discover Cacao, an independent company as small as the producers we were championing, and we invited all the chocolatiers and chocolate makers we had met to join us in a small community hall in Oxted, Surrey for our first Oxted Chocolate Fair. On 22nd December 2014 we filled that hall with chocolate, and people came.2014 to Date
Since then we have returned to Oxted each year, just before Easter, having completed our 5th event there on the 24th March 2018. We have also expanded our events to include the Denbies Chocolate Fair at Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking, Surrey - having completed our 3rd year there on the 25th March 2018. Recent events include An Introduction to Award Winning Chocolate, and An Introduction to Vegan Chocolate at The Carpenters Arms, Limpsfield, Surrey.
In 2018 we launched the Brighton Chocolate Festival, and welcomed over 6500 visitors to the Hilton Brighton Metropole across the 'Chocolate Week' weekend. With over 40 exhibitors stands, burleques and musical entertainment, wearable art shoes, and the 'Cumberbunny' on display, our visitors immersed themselves in an amazing chocolate delight.
